Today's competitive educational environment and hectic lifestyle puts youth under pressures not experienced by previous generations. Academic competition, peer pressure, family problems and expectations as well as increased media exposure create stress and anxiety at an age when youth are undergoing physical, mental and hormonal changes. As a result, stress and depression are widespread in today's youth, preventing them from realising their full potential and putting them at risk of a wide range of illnesses in the long run. The increasing trend of substance abuse and violence in schools is indicative of the high levels of stress our youth face. The YES! Workshop addresses these issues by bringing unique stress management / health promoting breathing technology to schools as part of its curricullum.
Sudarshan Kriya (Sanskrit term) is a specialised breathing technology practised by millions of people across the world. The breath is the link between the mind and body. Like other rhythms throughout nature, our breath also moves in specific patterns at particular times which are directly connected to our mental and emotional states. Through the rhythmic breathing pattern of Sudarshan Kriya the rhythms of the body, mind and emotions are balanced and harmonized, leading to a stress-free, healthy and joyful state of being. As part of the YES! Workshop students gain an understanding of the breath and mind and learn the Sudarshan Kriya and related breathing technologies that they can incorporate into a healthy lifestyle.
